The Buried Diffuser, an improved drip irrigation technique

The buried diffuser for underground irrigation: an invention that has proved its effenciency

For more than 25 years, I have led researches to optimize irrigation in arid and semi arid regions, particularly on my own country Tunisia: a developing country. The result of these researches is the invention of the buried diffuser for underground irrigation: A patent that was awarded by many environmental organizations and won first prices in many competitions (UNESCO, WorldBank InfoDev, Alesco…).

This device has also proved its efficiency in field. It was implemented on many farms in Tunisia, which adopted this innovative technic instead of the drip, which is 3 times less efficient. The mean advantage is the 0% loss of irrigation water: 0% evaporation.

The comparison of diffuser prototypes at laboratory level, outside, with surface and drip irrigation, during 2 months of summer, demonstrates the superiority of the diffuser in saving water. 61 days after the irrigation, the diffuser allowed to save 34 % of the initial irrigation water amount when the surface irrigation allowed only 3,4% and the drip irrigation allowed 8%.

I invite you to visit the website of the company that I have implemented to produce this technology www.chahtech.com.
